The Brewery Well - Our Source of Brewing Water
The well was rediscovered during renovation work to dig up and replace the floor in what
was to become the brewery fermentation room. The Council were informed and they said
they would send someone round to look into it!
The well is lined in Cotswold stone and on rediscovering it, initial probing showed it to be about
9 feet deep. However, after two weeks heavy digging (by Andrew 'Tots' Totterdale) it is once more
at its original depth of 37 feet.
The well is now back to its full complement of 29 feet of water, which we estimate to be about 1,208 gallons
(Check Figures)
or 33.5 barrels.
We pump the water from a foot from the bottom of the well and then pass it through a filter to remove any particles
(not that we have seen any) and then pass it through a UV sanitisation unit (A steel tube with a UV bulb in it)
to kill off any bacteria that might be present. We have had the water tested by "Scientific Services" in Bristol (Men in white coats)
and they have declared it 'fit to drink'.
